For years now, I have lived under the threat of redundancy. It is mentally exhausting. We can’t plan anything, like a holiday, in case we lose our jobs and need the money to keep up the mortgage payments. Some of my friends have lost their jobs, even at a time when they are about to have a baby. Hardship has hit the mainstream and we are all struggling to make ends meet. My partner and I are finding that we can’t even afford to live in London anymore and are looking at moving out—and neither of us has ever claimed any state benefit whatever. So when I read this news story about what’s troubling the British Royal Family, I am left seething with resentment. How very tough their pampered little lives must be?
