Ask me about the English Riots.

What began as ‘the Tottenham Riot’ became ‘the London Riots’, and then ‘the English Riots’ but to set the record straight, as there were no riots in Wales or Scotland the term ‘UK riots’ is incorrect.

The UK comprises England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Another minor irritation for me and other residents is that the riots in my neighbourhood were constantly reported on the news as being in Clapham. This again is not correct.

The area is more commonly known as Clapham Junction, although that in itself, is also technically incorrect. Whilst Londoners have a habit of identifying areas by local train or tube station names, as in Clapham Common, Clapham North, Clapham South, etc., to be absolutely correct, the area that was destroyed on Monday night is in fact, Battersea.

Should England become a republic?

I have a mixed relationship with royalty and the Royal Family. Not that I know any of them of course, but I dislike the notion that one human is superior to others, purely through accident of birth.

I don’t find the British Royal Family offensive. They work quite hard and bring great benefits to the country in terms of tourism and world recognition. I quite like some of them. I respect the Queen for her commitment to the country.

But this idea that I should call anyone ‘Your Majesty’ or ‘Your Royal Highness’ just doesn’t sit well with my intrinsic belief that all humans are equal
